About Laurie Sammons
Laurie Sammons is a pastel artist living in the Hudson Valley in New York. Through her paintings she celebrate the joy, beauty and humor of the world, with subjects ranging from people and animals to landscapes and small scale nature vignettes. Through a rich and complex use of color, her paintings create and share emotions, from the serenity of a quiet walk on a woodland trail, to the humor of a dog’s smile or a donkey’s quizzical look.
Laurie has been drawing and painting all her life. The path to her current art passion wasn’t quite linear, however. While enjoying a long successful career in medical Ultrasound Imaging (which in and of itself is an art form!), her artistic endeavors included graphic design work, a calligraphy business, and learning to play the accordion, among other projects. Between various aspirations she was always doing pen and ink drawings, along with small scale art creations. A series of those were used for numerous postage stamp issues from Mongolia which was a really cool experience for a still budding artist.
Laurie has been pastel painting now for about fifteen years. Since giving up her career in healthcare imaging her artistic endeavors are enjoying a new phase of exploration. She is currently experimenting with oil painting and other mediums. Visual art gives her the opportunity to express her creativity, sensitivity and humor.
